General overview of the ERAMET Laboratory

Laboratory for Production and Refining of Metallic Materials

Laboratory includes several locations, namely, besides halls JK 001 and JK 002 with the experimental installations and devices, respectively the Vacuum Induction Furnace - Balzers HU-40-25-40-04 type and the Vacuum Arc Remelting installation - MRF ABJ 900 type and other, laboratory also includes JB 112 and JB 214 halls with appropriate logistic to theoretical study of the specific physico-chemical and metallurgical processes developed at the making and refining of the metallic materials.

To meet several requirements of scientific research, in the laboratory ERAMET was designed and constructed a Installation for Processing of Metallic Materials by induction with converter compact and controlled atmosphere, type CTC50K15, and for preparation materials in order to introduce in the furnace with induction, the laboratory has been equipped with a preheating furnaces type Nabertherm N17 / HR. Also, for the study of production and refining processes, the laboratory also has a Installation for Powder Materials Injection inside the Metal Melts and equipment and systems for simulation of the injection of gas into the melt.

Laboratory for Production and Refining of Metallic Materials ERAMET was developed at the University Politehnica of Bucharest, Faculty of Materials Science and Engineering, Department of Engineering and Management of Metallic Materials.

The laboratory was conducted in several phases, solely with funds obtained from research contracts developed within the National Research Programmes: RELANSIN, CEEX, INVENT, PCCA, CERES, MATNANTECH, INNOVATION by teachers of the university following:

Prof. Univ. Dr. Ing. Victor GEANTÃ

Prof. Univ. Dr. Ing. Ionelia VOICULESCU

Prof. Univ. Dr. Ing. Radu STEFÃNOIU.

The laboratory ERAMET serves as a scientific research unit for teachers and researchers (contracts and scientific research works of national plans for research and contracts with third parties from Romania and other countries), students (undergraduate work, master) and PhD students of the faculty and other institutions of higher education from Romania.

In the laboratory, with the present equipment can be obtained conveniently by elaboration and refining the following types of metallic materials:

  • stainless steel, refractory, maraging;

  • alloyed and microalloyed steels;

  • biocompatible metallic materials in various classes Co-Cr, Ni-Ti, 316L etc.;

  • stainless steel, magnesium base;

  • titanium alloys and other non ferrous alloys;

  • semi precious and precious dental materials;

  • metallic materials with high melting temperatures;

  • high entropy alloys.

Also in the laboratory can perform any surface melting, brazing flat and cylindrical, metallic and non-metallic powder deposits, obtaining packed beds.

Laboratory for Production and Refining of Metallic Materials ERAMET is considered a experimental support, particularly for scientific courses, like: Engineering of steel production, Steel refining, Obtaining of biocompatible metallic materials, Special steels.

Laboratory coordination is ensured by Prof. dr. ing. Victor Geantã, Prof. dr. ing. Ionelia Voiculescu and Prof. dr. ing. Radu Stefãnoiu.
